This little dude along with his 20 something brothers and sisters were found crossing the road to get to Oxtongue Lake.
They made a delicious turtle stew.

We just spent the weekend at Jungle Cat World in Orono. We stayed the night in their bed and breakfast ‘Lion’s Den’ room and went on a behind the scenes tour in the morning where we got to play with and feed the animals!

We burned some of our property and rescued two Monarch Caterpillars from the area. They have been chomping on Milkweed leaves all week and one has formed a Chrysalis and the other one is on its way! Its the first one we have ever seen! Also, indoor caterpillars = easy macro shots!

A group of people parked along the roadside..

They were adolescent, male and female. They were close enough to the road that I didn’t even cross the street lest I get gored by the male’s fuzzy antlers.

Pileated Woodpecker

woodpecker

There was a bunch of these guys hopping around this morning - neat to see but also made it difficult to get clear shots.

Note to self: next telephoto needs to have image stabilization and/or next camera needs to have quicker and more precise autofocus.

Green Heron in the Front Yard

green heron

First time I’ve seen a green heron and this one was just across the road in the wetland in front of our house. It was perched on the turtle basking log plucking fish out of the water.
