Blooming Tea

bloomingtea

Before, during and after shot of a tea blossom.  They bloom as they steep and are good for 24 hours–just keep refilling the kettle with more hot water.

This particular blossom tasted very different (as in bad) after the second round however.  It was good the first time though!

Daisys?

daisy

Becky’s flowers.  She actually bought them for herself because she was unsatisfied with the frequency in which I bought her flowers.  She felt it was necessary to take matters into her own hands.

She’s a bright girl!

Duck vs Massive Fish

Posted on November 11, 2008

fishcarp

I thought the ducks would be scared of the fish on account of their monumental size–but nope! They’d eat the fish food right off the carps backs and almost right from their mouths.

Jerk ducks..

Canon EOS 5D Mk II New Videos and Reviews

Posted on November 10, 2008

Came across a new review of the 5D with more high ISO pictures here at Bebb Studios, I still wouldn’t venture into the supersonic ISO range unless you’re taking a picture without any publication value. Even more revealing is the following video via Gizmodo, produced with some affordable lenses (50 1.4, 17-40L, 2 out of the 5). Tempting….

Canon….capitalizing on US inflation and screwing over Canadians

Posted on November 9, 2008

Under the auspices of a weak Canadian dollar, caused by lower commodity prices (see Oil…) and scared American investors (who are only buying only the most reliable government securities, resulting in increases in the value of the American dollar), Canon has decided to be a bunch of douchebags (pardon my french). If you’ve been following prices of the new 5d mk. II that can be pre-ordered from many Canadian retailers, you’ll have noticed a price increase of $300 just days away from its shipping date.

It appears as though this will mean a retroactive price increase to all those that pre-ordered this camera, which is a huge kick in the pants. For everyone else hoping for a price decrease to edge the camera into affordability territory, I can only imagine that as the dollar edges closer to parity with the US dollar in the future that there will be no price decrease, as is typical with such increases in the past. The US is also to blame for the dollar’s current slump. The risk-averse market is causing investors to buy only the most reliable government securities, which happens to be from the US. Unfortunately for Canadians, these securities can only be purchased in American currency. Because this increases the value of the American dollar, the Canadian dollar appears to be less valuable comparatively.

This is such a disappointment to a camera that has such promise. Hopefully as the markets stabilize, so will Canon’s loyalty to its customers. In the mean time I’ll be looking elsewhere for photographic fulfillment, perhaps a return to film is what I need to cleanse myself of this disgusting display of greed.

P.S. For anyone who disputes my claim that Canon are a bunch of douchebags look at this flowchart and see the picture to the left of the President of Canon….I rest my case…..that popped collar is ridiculous.
