Keith Loutit - Bathtub photography (tilt-shift)
Posted on March 31, 2009
Check out this and Keith’s other amazing T/S time lapses. How he filmed this as a story blows my mind - pay close attention to the fisherman at 0:40.

Artsy Pan
Posted on March 26, 2009

Another pan shot from that same trip down 28 on the way to Belleville to see Craig Cardiff perform at the Organic Underground Cafe.
I was trying to completely stop the sign, (as in get it in focus as it flew by) however I clearly didn’t–but it did make for an interesting shot anyway!

Canon Rebel T1i 500D
Posted on March 24, 2009
Finally confirmed the day before its release.
Control dial at Canon Rumours
Leaked video screencap from CNET
Possible picture with a swivel screen - yikes!
Rumoured specs from Canon Rumours:
“It’s in between 50D and XSi. It has the same size sensor as the 50D, 15MP. It has creative auto mode. Same body as the XSi. It has a video mode. 720p at 30 frames/sec and 1080p and 20 frames/sec. ”
the 20 fps makes absolutely no sense, perhaps they mean 24p? we can only hope!
I’ll keep updating this post as info becomes available…
*UPDATE*
the 20fps at 1080 HD is true, but the average prosumer probably wouldn’t need to be shooting full HD anyways - I know I don’t have a 40inch HDTV to justify it. I’m curious to see what something shot at 20fps looks like though - why couldn’t they just make it 24!!! The deal breaker for me is going to be if it doesn’t have an audio out jack. That would make this camera utterly useless for shooting quality video, unless you recorded it separately but thats out of my price range. Adding a Rode mic for $250 is a easy fix to good quality sound.
The pricing is $799.99 US, which means everyone and their brother will likely snatch this one up. Probably closer to $1000 in Canada. Hopefully a nice new 50mm will be announced to make this a complete package.
*Another Update*
There’s a couple reviews/previews out there but this is the only one with videos. Full specs are also now widely available and there is no audio input

80km/h pan shot
Posted on March 23, 2009

Not perfectly focused on the front end but pretty good for a first try.
This was shot on Highway 28 heading South. I took a few pictures of unsuspecting drivers in this fashion and believe it or not this is the best.
I hope to have better panning examples in the future.

Paintballs…the e stands for evil

Paintballs in a bag. I found the metallic orange quite appealing.

Looking West down Charlotte St.
Posted on March 14, 2009

This is a shot looking West from the Otonabee River. Charlotte St. would be just behind the foliage on the left there. The orange orb is a ghost…
..Nah it’s just a street light in front of Princess Gardens.

PS Heathyr, what’s that ‘foliage’ called?

Cellphone Cameras
Posted on March 9, 2009

My newest camera. A 2 megapixel beast with a flash! Ok so technically it’s not very impressive but consider the following:
Cellphone cameras allow you to document anything you want on the fly. They’re not a hassle because you keep them on you anyway for their ‘real’ purpose of being a phone.
I’ve used mine to take pictures of posters I don’t want to forget, ie hand drum lessons call 743 xxxx. This way you don’t have to have a pen and paper handy–just take a picture!
It works great for taking pictures of notes in class. If the instructor spends a whole class writing and scribling their little heart out on a board, it must be somewhat important. Instead of trying to copy their artistry in your notebook, just take a picture when class is over!
I wouldn’t want to use it for actual photography, however there are merits in its ease of use, accessibility and journalistic purposes.
I used to be one of those guys that wanted a cellphone to call people with (whoah..) but now that I have a camera included, I must say it is quite a bonus.
