The illusive Canada Darner (Aeshna canadensis)

Posted on August 5, 2009

dragonfly

Well, not illusive to Ontario but illusive to me as it took me awhile to identify it. The Canada Darner is part of the subspecies “Mosaic Darners”. This was the most aggressive dragonfly we saw all weekend camping at the Kawartha Highlands Signature site. This one is a male and was found flying between a creek and the lowest branches of a forest searching for a tasty meal no doubt.

Cat’s are cheaper when you buy them with upside down heads.
