Typical Algonquin Scenery
Posted on September 24, 2009

You can’t tell from the shot but I’m actually standing below the water line by about four feet. Those crazy beavers decided to create this lake and did a pretty good job at it.
This trail was Centennial Ridges, it’s a killer 11km hike. The brochure states that by the time you finish the trail you will have climbed a total of 1200ft (not straight up, there are lots of up then down areas).
I thought I was going to have to sleep there at the halfway point and simultaneous be dinner for bears, beavers and what have you.

Guitar by starlight
Posted on September 9, 2009

My sister playing some guitar out on the dock of Oxtongue Lake.
I can’t remember what song.. but it’s safe to say she was probably tearing through some sweet Zeppelin solos.

Hiding Chippy
Posted on September 8, 2009

Did you know a chipmunk can fit three whole peanuts in their mouth at once! Well this dude can. He puts two in his cheeks, then aggressively chases you around until you give him a third.

Aggressive Blue Jays
Posted on September 6, 2009

Apparently Oxtongue Lake is Blue Jay heaven. There are more Blue Jays than any other bird it seems, AND they’re all jerks!
Chickadees, which come in a close second for highest population, are friendly and nice and would eat food right from our hands. Blue Jays would take this opportunity to come flying over screaming to scare all the chickadees away and eat their food. This happened multiple times. Not only did the Blue Jays not like the chickadees, they even fought each other.
What noble creatures.

Oxtongue Lake at Night
Posted on September 4, 2009

The full moon allowed for some nice night photography this week.
Above is a shot looking South down Oxtongue lake just 5km West of the Algonquin Park West Gate.
It was taken last night and was a 41 second exposure I believe.
